HitColor+

by catsflex

HitColor+ changes the tint an entity flashes when it takes damage, and lets the color of each armor layer be set on its own.

FabricClient-side onlyGNU General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.21.11

What it does

When a mob or player is hit, the game briefly tints the model red. HitColor+ replaces that tint with a color chosen in the settings, and it can apply a different hit color to the body and to each piece of worn armor. The change only affects the flash shown on hit; it does not alter damage, health or any other gameplay value.

The mod can be limited so that only hits from the local player's own attacks trigger a custom color, which keeps other players' fights unchanged. Options are set in-game through YetAnotherConfigLib, so no config file needs editing. HitColor+ is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, with a public source repository and issue tracker. It is published for Fabric alone, for 1.21.11.

Key features

  1. Custom hit tint

Replaces the default red damage flash on entities with a color selected in the settings.

  2. Separate armor colors

Armor pieces can receive their own hit color, distinct from the color used on the entity's body.

  3. Armor model coloring

Hit colors are applied to the worn armor models as well as the base entity, so the flash covers the full outfit.

  4. Own attacks only

An option restricts custom coloring to hits from the player's own attacks, leaving other entities' flashes as they are.

  5. In-game configuration

Settings are edited on a screen built with YetAnotherConfigLib instead of a file on disk.

How it compares

Full comparison

Armor Damage Tint is a Fabric client mod for 1.21.5 – 26.3, released under CC0 1.0 Universal and open source, and it recolors armor damage. Old Damage Tint covers only 1.20.4 – 1.20.6 under the MIT License, a narrower range than HitColor+. DamageTintPlus is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only and runs on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1 – 1.21.4, so it reaches more loaders but a different version span.

Questions

Does HitColor+ need to be installed on the server?

No. Servers do not need it; each player installs it for their own game.

Which loader and version does HitColor+ support?

HitColor+ is published for Fabric only, with a single build for 1.21.11. The latest file is v2.3.0, dated 2026-08-24.

Can the hit color be limited to the player's own attacks?

Yes. The restriction to own attacks is a setting, so other entities' hits keep the default flash.
