Hide Password

by lyuwenhan

Hide Password is a client-side Fabric mod that masks password arguments typed into chat commands, such as login and register inputs.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.21.11 – 26.3

What it does

When a player types a chat command that carries a password, the mod replaces the argument on screen with asterisk characters. Masking uses a fixed number of characters, so the length of the real password is not revealed to anyone watching the chat. The command sent to the server is changed to carry the real password, so the server receives the same input the player typed.

The mod is aimed at players who log in or register on servers that take passwords through chat commands. It runs only on the client, so server owners do not need to install anything. A toggle on the F8 key turns the masking off and on during play. The mod is published for Fabric only, in builds for 26.3 and for the 1.21.11 – 26.3 range, under the MIT License and open source.

Key features

  1. Masked chat arguments

Password arguments in chat commands are shown as asterisk characters instead of plain text on screen.

  2. Fixed-length masking

Each password is masked with the same number of characters, so its length stays hidden from observers.

  3. Command sent unchanged

The real password is still delivered in the outgoing command, so the server receives the correct input.

  4. F8 toggle

Pressing F8 switches the masking off or back on without restarting the game.

AutoLogin on Fabric is client-side only, open source under the MIT License and published for 1.21 – 26.3, so it works across a wider range than this mod. Dialog Password Hider is also client-side only and MIT licensed, with files for 1.21.6 – 26.2, and it targets dialog prompts rather than chat commands. PassEncryptor is client-side only under the MIT License and open source, but its files cover 1.21.11 only.
