(Ultra) Hardcore Life Sharing

by Arrotino

Ultra Hardcore Life Sharing turns a hardcore world into a shared pool of lives, so one player's death costs the whole group a life instead of ending the world.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalApache License 2.01.21.2 – 26.3

What it does

Players draw from a single life total that is shared among everyone on the server and starts at 3, with a maximum of 5 that the config can change. The total is shown on the action bar, and when anyone dies a title announces who died and how many lives remain. When the total reaches zero, the game-over text appears and every player becomes a spectator, as in vanilla hardcore. Players can also gain back lives through a configurable Allay mechanic, and that way can be disabled in the config.

The mod works with both vanilla Hardcore and Ultra Hardcore worlds, and it sets difficulty to hard automatically to match vanilla hardcore. Server owners can configure almost every option, and the mod adds custom advancements and an option to opt guests out. It requires a resource pack, and the datapack is placed in the world's datapacks folder like any other pack. Installation needs a server-side install, while clients may run it too; the environment is server required with the client optional. Builds cover 1.21.2 – 26.3 on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and the code is released under the Apache License 2.0, which means the project is not open source.

Key features

  1. Shared life total

A single life counter is shared by every player, so losing a life affects the whole group.

  2. Configurable life cap

The shared total starts at 3 lives and can be raised to a maximum of 5 through the config.

  3. Allay life recovery

A configurable Allay can give players a heart after a set time, and this way can be disabled.

  4. Lockout on death

When one player dies, that player is locked out while others keep playing until the total reaches zero.

  5. Glowing players

Players glow so others can see them, and the effect is part of the hardcore setup.

What the author says

In vanilla hardcore, when someone dies on a server they will be locked out of the server while everyone else can still play. This datapack changes this to make hardcore more suitable for a server. All players have a shared life total displayed on the action bar and the world only ends when it reaches zero. Difficulty…
