Grass Pinger
by Mian
Grass Pinger, a Fabric utility, shows a visual grass indicator in single-player and multiplayer that reflects whether the server and internet connection still respond.
What it does
Grass Pinger makes a connection problem visible in the game world. Blocks of grass at the top of the screen are used as the indicator: when a ping succeeds, the grass stays in place, and when a ping fails, the top block disappears and the bottom grass lilac breaks away after a few seconds. The current server is pinged on one schedule and a Google ping checks the wider internet on another, so a server crash and a dropped internet connection can be told apart.
The mod runs on the client only, so the server does not need to install anything. It requires Cloth Config API, Mod Menu and Night Auto Config, and the Fabric loader. Files are published for 1.20 – 1.21.3 across 11 release versions, with 1.3.0 for 1.21 as the latest Fabric build. The code is licensed under All rights reserved and is not open source.
Key features
Server and internet pings
The current server and a Google address are pinged separately, so the indicator shows which one has stopped responding.
Adjustable timing
Intervals between successful and failed pings can be set separately for the server and the Google ping.
Toggle each check
The server pinger and the Google pinger can be switched on or off individually in the configuration file.
Custom textures
A texture pack can replace the grass graphics, provided it follows the structure the mod expects.
Debug command
A single command, pingDebug, prints the current server ping to the console for troubleshooting.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Players who play multiplayer on Fabric and want a constant view of connection health without reading the ping number in the server list. Players on unstable networks are the main audience.
How it compares
Ping Display works on the client only, for 1.20.1 – 1.21.4, and is released under the MIT License. Server Pinger Fixer is also client-side only, licensed MIT and open source, for 1.18 – 26.3. Dedicated Server LAN Pinger is server-side only and is not open source, released under MIT-0, for 1.19 – 26.2. Grass Pinger differs by showing the state through the game world rather than through a text or list display.
