GoatMan

by Llamii_Llama

With GoatMan, a cryptid-style monster stalks the player, then chases, flees or vanishes depending on how the encounter unfolds.

FabricForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.19.2 – 1.20.1

What it does

GoatMan spawns as a monster that reacts to the player. It wanders, eats crops and attacks other mobs when left alone. When a player looks at it directly or comes too close, it can shift into a stalking state, then begin a chase, retreat or disappear entirely. Its behavior depends on the interaction, so no two encounters need to play out the same way.

The mod includes an abduction mechanic. Instead of always killing the player, GoatMan can grab them, take some items and leave them elsewhere with half a heart and debuffs. Repeated abductions make it more dangerous, and the chance of a fatal third abduction rises. Each abduction level fades after a few days without contact. Fabric API and Geckolib are required. Cloth Config API is optional and adds a configuration screen. The mod is client and server, so the server and every player need it, and it is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source. Files exist for 1.19.2, 1.20 and 1.20.1, with 3.1 as the latest Fabric file for 1.20.1 and 3.1 as the latest Forge file for 1.19.2.

Key features

  1. Stalking behavior

GoatMan follows the player silently until it is seen, then may escalate into a chase or retreat.

  2. Anger and stun reset

Each time GoatMan is harmed or stunned, the risk of it being killed rises until a short timer resets it.

  3. Mob sound mimicry

GoatMan copies sounds from nearby or recently killed mobs, which can make it hard to locate.

  4. Flee conditions

It runs when low on health, burns over time, is hurt by other mobs, or is damaged by the player.

  5. Abduction system

Repeated abductions steal items, relocate the player and can end in a fatal third abduction, with levels that decay over time.

Do players need GoatMan on their side?

Yes. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod.

Can the behavior of GoatMan be changed?

Yes. Configured is recommended for customizing behavior, sound effects and features, and Cloth Config API is optional for its configuration screen.
