GitPuller

by Neylz

GitPuller brings Git version control into a Fabric world, so a server can pull and manage datapacks from remote repositories in-game.

FabricServer-side onlyApache License 2.0Open source1.20.6 – 26.3

What it does

GitPuller is an in-game Git management tool built around datapacks. Because it is server-side only, players join without installing anything; only the server needs the mod. Fabric API is a required dependency and must be installed alongside it. Builds are published for Fabric only, covering 1.20.6 – 26.3 across 18 release versions, and the latest Fabric file is 1.3.0 for 26.3, released 2026-04-12.

Private repositories need a GitHub token with the repo scope selected, which can be generated on GitHub. The mod checks for a token in the environment configuration file first. A token passed through a command overrides other methods for the current session, while a system environment variable keeps it across sessions. A token set only in-game is lost after a server restart, so a config file or environment variable is the durable choice.

The mode is a later addition that treats the world's datapacks folder as one repository instead of a collection of repositories. In that mode Git commands act only on the monorepo. Enabling it requires setting the gitpuller.monorepo option to the URL of the remote repository in the config, and the datapacks folder must be empty beforehand. Leaving the option empty removes the entry and disables the mode. Some command syntax changed to match the new mode.

Key features

  1. In-game Git commands

Git operations on datapacks can be run from the game, so repositories are managed without leaving the world.

  2. Private repository access

A GitHub token with the repo scope grants access to private repositories, supplied by config file, environment variable or command.

  3. Monorepo mode

The datapacks folder can be treated as one repository, and commands then interact only with that monorepo.

  4. Session token override

A token given by command takes precedence for the current session, replacing values from other sources.

How it compares

Full comparison

Git Pack Manager is server-side only, open source under the MIT License, and covers Fabric and NeoForge for 1.19.2 – 26.3, so it reaches more loaders and older versions than GitPuller. Pack Repos is open source under the Apache License 2.0 for Fabric only, with a 26.2 build, and runs as client or server optional, so either side may use it without requiring it.

Questions

Does GitPuller need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is a required dependency and must be installed next to GitPuller on Fabric.

Do players need to install GitPuller?

No. Server owners install it, and players connect with no copy of their own.

How does a server owner set up a private repository?

Generate a GitHub token with the repo scope selected, then set it in the config file, an environment variable or a session command.

What the author says

If you want to use a private repository, you need to set up a token. You can easily generate a token on GitHub here. Make sure to select the repo scope. More information on how to set up a token can be found on the GitHub help page.
