Gifts of Giving

by Nyfaria

Gifts of Giving lets a player craft a gift box, dye it, name it after the recipient, and place it so only that person can open it.

FabricForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.20.1

What it does

The mod adds gift blocks that work like chests. After a gift is renamed with an anvil, the name appears above the placed block, and the recipient is the only person who can open it. Gifts are crafted by placing paper around a chest, with a dye in the crafting grid to set the box color. Destroying a gift keeps its contents inside, much like a shulker box, so the items are not scattered on the ground.

The design aims to keep presents safe from thieves on shared worlds and servers, since other players cannot open a box addressed to someone else. Each gift box takes one dye color, which makes the blocks useful as decoration as well as storage. The mod began as a simple Christmas project and is still used year-round.

Gifts of Giving targets Fabric and Forge for 1.20.1 only. The server and every player need the mod installed. The code is not open source, and the project is released under All rights reserved.

Key features

  1. Named gift boxes

An anvil rename sets the recipient, and the name is shown above the block once it is placed.

  2. Private contents

Only the named recipient can open a gift, which keeps items away from other players.

  3. Dyeable blocks

Each gift box takes a single dye color, chosen in the crafting grid during the recipe.

  4. Items kept on break

Breaking a gift preserves its contents inside the item, similar to a shulker box.

What the author says

Gifts of Giving is a simple mod made for this year's Christmas, but can still be used year-round! This mod adds new gift box blocks, one for each dye color. Not only are these blocks cute and great for decoration, but they are functional too! Simply rename the gift box in an anvil to the name of the person you want…
