Genetically Modified Monsters
Genetically Modified Monsters adds lab-engineered Creeper variants with new powers, behaviors and explosions that change how survival encounters play out.
What it does
The mod introduces mutated monsters that are built to push a player's limits. Familiar mobs can gain mutations that alter their attacks and movement, so a fight that once followed a known pattern may not. Several mutated Creepers leap multiple blocks high, scale walls and vertical surfaces, and move faster with better pathfinding, which removes many of the safe hiding spots players normally rely on.
Some variants explode with stronger blasts, including charged forms whose explosion reaches farther, which makes close-range fights more dangerous. Other variants stay silent until they strike, so the usual audio warning is absent. Once a mutated Creeper locks onto a player it can be hard to shake, and the adaptive AI dodges, repositions, avoids hazards and pursues players during combat.
The mod runs on the client and the server, so both need it installed. Files are published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with builds covering 1.16.5 – 26.2 and the latest files for 26.2 on Fabric and NeoForge and 1.20.1 on Forge. It is open source under the Apache License 2.0, and its source code and issue tracker are public.
Key features
Mutated Creeper variants
Creepers are altered with new experimental mutations that change how they move, attack and explode.
Adaptive combat AI
Mutated mobs dodge attacks, reposition during fights, avoid hazards and keep pressure on players.
Vertical threats
Certain Creepers leap several blocks high and climb walls, so ambushes can come from unexpected angles.
Silent and locked-on variants
Some mutated Creepers give no familiar audio cue, and once they detect a player they are very hard to lose.
