What it does

Players milk cows, goats and sheep and fill three Milk Bottles per cauldron. A bottle left out for one Minecraft day turns sour, and sour milk is used to multiply cheese cultures. Five cultures are available, including Fresh, Mesophilic, Thermophilic, Blue Mold and Propionic, and several rennet recipes, including one that brews from a Calf Stomach.

Curds are processed in a Cheese Vat at low, medium or high heat, then sorted into large, medium or small curds. Presses take curds in molds, a Small Mold Press using four individually slotted curds and a Wheel Mold Press using eight. The two-shelf aging rack finishes the wheels. A curd keeps a record of the heat it was processed at, and a press recipe will not accept a curd whose stored heat does not match. A heating tray sits above Lava Campfires and unlit Campfires, which also provide heat.

The mod is client and server, so the server and every player need it. It is published for 1.21.1 on Fabric and NeoForge, and it is released under CC0 1.0 Universal, which places it in the public domain, so the project is not open source. Mozzarella Balls and Stracciatella are edible, and two sizes of Bad Cheese count toward the 27-cheese collection.

Key features

  1. Five cultures and rennet

Cultures range from Fresh to Propionic, and multiple rennet recipes, including Calf Stomach brewing, feed the curd stage.

  2. Vat heat levels

The Cheese Vat processes curds at low, medium or high heat, and each choice changes the cheese produced.

  3. Aging rack

A two-shelf aging rack holds wheels while they mature into their final forms.

  4. Sour milk cultures

Milk left out for one day turns sour and can be used to multiply cultures.

Questions

Does Fromage need a loader API on Fabric?

No required dependency is listed for Fabric and NeoForge.

Does the server need Fromage installed?

Yes. The server and every player need the mod installed.

How do players get a 27-cheese collection?

The mod includes 27 final cheeses, and two sizes of Bad Cheese count toward that total alongside the other recipes.

Can a press use curds stored at the wrong heat?

No. Curds remember their processing temperature, so a press recipe requires curds stored at the heat it expects.
