FriendMod

by px86

FriendMod lets Fabric players see their friends, accept or send friend requests, and join friends' worlds from inside Minecraft.

FabricClient required, server optionalAll rights reserved1.21.8 – 26.3

What it does

Friends appear in a list inside the game, so a player can see which friends are online and already playing, then join a friend's world directly instead of going through a separate launcher or extra app. Friend requests can be sent and accepted from the same list, and world or server invites can be sent straight into chat.

Chat with friends happens in the game window, without leaving Minecraft to message someone elsewhere. The mod also works with Bedrock players on a local network for multiplayer, which suits players who want to host a world for friends across platforms. Files are built for 1.21.8 – 26.3 and install on Fabric only.

Players must install the mod, while a server may add it for extra features and can run without it. Friends' worlds can be joined without a server-side install. The license is All rights reserved, so the code is not open source.

Key features

  1. Friends list in game

A friends list sits inside the game and shows who is online and which friends are already playing.

  2. Friend requests

Players send friend requests and accept incoming ones from the same screen, without an outside service.

  3. Join friends' worlds

Players can join a friend's world straight from the friends list, which is quicker than searching for an address.

  4. Chat and invites

Messages to friends and world or server invites are sent through the game chat, so no separate app is needed.

Use cases

Hosting for friends

A player hosting a world can invite friends, including Bedrock players on the local network, and let them join from the list.

Finding friends in play

Players can check which friends are online and already in a game, then join them without leaving the game window.

Who it’s for: Players who play Minecraft Java Edition with friends and want invites, chat and joins in one place. Server owners can run the server without the mod, since it is optional on the server side.

How it compares

AutoJoinParty is a client-side only Fabric mod for 1.21.1 – 26.2 under All rights reserved, so it changes only the player's own side. Better Local Chat is a server-side only Fabric mod for 1.21 – 26.3 under the MIT License, so players need nothing installed. FriendMod covers friends, requests and invites together and needs to be on the player's side.

Questions

Does FriendMod need to be on the server?

No. Players must install it, and a server can add it for extra features but does not need it.

Which loader and versions does FriendMod support?

Only Fabric. Files exist for 1.21.8, 1.21.9, 1.21.10, 1.21.11, 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3, and the latest file is 1.1.1 for 26.3.
