faun - chat & privacy options
by rosebud
Faun, a chat and privacy options mod for Minecraft, lets players change how the client handles chat restrictions, telemetry and account safety settings.
What it does
The mod writes a faun.properties file in the game folder. Players and developers open it and set each option to true or false, and the changes take effect for the local client. Defaults are set so that the account settings it covers are left intact until someone changes them. The author lists options for lifting chat restrictions, disabling telemetry, enabling a profanity filter and changing account safety settings.
Faun is a Client-side only mod, so only the client needs it, and servers run without it. It is published for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt across 36 release versions, 1.16.4 – 26.3, with snapshot builds also published. The mod is open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, and public links exist for the source code, issue tracker and wiki. The latest files are 2.0.2 for 26.3, released 2026-08-25.
Key features
Chat restriction options
Options can lift chat restrictions on the account, so the client sends messages the account settings would otherwise block.
Telemetry switch
A setting disables the telemetry that Minecraft sends, and a separate option leaves it enabled.
Profanity filter control
The text-filtering configuration can be enabled or disabled, letting the player choose whether chat is filtered.
Local properties file
All options live in one faun.properties file, so changes can be made by hand without an in-game screen.

Use cases
Personal chat settings
A player who wants chat that the account settings would normally restrict can change the matching options in the properties file.
Debugging
Developers can turn the same settings on or off to test how their software behaves under different chat and telemetry configurations.
Who it’s for: Players who want to change chat, telemetry or account safety settings on their own client, and developers who need those settings for debugging.
