Farsighted Mobs
by sindarin27
Farsighted Mobs raises how far hostile mobs can detect and follow a player, so creatures that would otherwise ignore a distant player start chasing them.
What it does
By default the mod sets pursuit distance for hostile creatures to 24 blocks. On hard difficulty an extra 8 blocks is added, and a small modifier based on local difficulty is applied on top. With the default settings, mobs are far more likely to pursue a player, especially at higher difficulties.
From version 3.0.0 the behavior is driven by rules. When a mob spawns, each rule is checked and, if it applies, changes that mob's attributes. Rules load from datapacks and can be fully configured; the default set checks conditions such as entity type and difficulty. Only newly spawned mobs are affected, so creatures already in a world before installation or a config change keep their original values.
The mod depends on Architectury API, which must be installed alongside it. It runs on the server only, so clients do not need it. The project is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, with public source code, issue tracker and wiki.
Key features
Increased follow range
Hostile mobs track players from 24 blocks by default, instead of the vanilla distance that lets players stay still and avoid them.
Hard mode bonus
On hard difficulty, mobs receive an additional 8 blocks of follow range on top of the base value.
Difficulty-scaled range
A small modifier based on local difficulty is added to the follow range, increasing pursuit at higher difficulties.
Datapack rules
Spawn-time rules are loaded from datapacks and can target entity types, difficulty and other conditions, with the format documented on the wiki.
New mobs only
Changes apply to mobs that spawn after the mod is active; existing mobs are left untouched.

Use cases
Harder survival
Players who find hostile mobs too predictable to evade can use the default values to make encounters more frequent.
Custom spawn behavior
Server owners can write datapack rules, for example to give creepers more health during rain or to change how drowned move in swamps.
Who it’s for: Server owners who want hostile mobs to pursue players from further away, and players who want to tune spawn-time mob behavior through datapacks.
How it compares
Old Mob Hit Ranges is open source under the MIT License, is server-side only and covers 1.20.2 – 26.3 on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt; it changes attack reach rather than detection. Charged Mobs is open source under the MIT License, requires both client and server, and covers 1.18 – 1.21.8 on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge.

What the author says
During your many playthroughs of Minecraft, you may have noticed the extreme nearsightedness of mobs in the game. As long as you stay more than 16 blocks away from a creeper, it will never come after you. Since mobs do not spawn within 24 blocks of the player, this means it is easy to survive: just stay still and…
