Essential Apocalypse
by ReddedOut
Essential Apocalypse adds post-apocalyptic items to Forge 1.20.1, including grenades, loot crates and themed equipment for survival play.
What it does
The mod bundles a set of post-apocalyptic items into one Forge add-on, inspired by survival titles such as Dying Light, DayZ and State Decay. Its six grenade types are frag, smoke, artillery barrage, missile, supply drop and gas grenades, each suited to area denial, targeted strikes or blowing things up. Weapons and equipment are crafted rather than found only in loot, which gives players grittier gear for a world that has fallen apart.
Loot crates are the mod's multiplayer-friendly alternative to barrels and chests, which can cause server lag when they hold large quantities. Right-clicking a loot crate rolls its loot table and spits the drops out in the direction the crate faces. An opened crate cannot be looted again until it is refilled, either with commands or by hand.
Essential Apocalypse depends on Curios API, which must be installed alongside it. The mod is licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only and is open source, with its source code public. Files are available for Forge 1.20.1, and the mod runs on client and server.

How it compares
Mrcool's Grenades is a Forge mod for 1.20.1 – 1.21.5 with all rights reserved and no source code offered, so it is not open source. Apocalyptic Scythes is an MIT-licensed Forge mod for 1.20.1 – 1.20.6 that is not open source. Chovy's Apocalypse targets only 1.20.1 under all rights reserved and is also not open source. Essential Apocalypse differs by being open source under the LGPL, and its grenades and loot crates cover a different set of items than these weapon and grenade packs.
