Entity Distance Hud

by ExiledLizard635

Entity Distance HUD shows, on the right side of the screen, how far away the nearest living entity is, for players who want to know what is around them.

FabricServer-side onlyMIT License1.21.3

What it does

The mod adds a new HUD element that reads the distance to the closest living entity within 16 blocks, along with information about that entity. Knowing what mobs are nearby helps when caving, where a player may otherwise notice a dangerous creature late. The display can be switched on and off with a command.

The mod runs on Fabric and needs Fabric API. It is listed as server-side only, so the server runs it and players on that server do not need to install anything. Files are available for 1.21.3 only, with version 1.0.0 as the latest file, dated 2025-03-05. It is released under the MIT License and is not open source.

The mod is categorized under Mobs, with Adventure and Utility also assigned. The author publishes a gallery tab on the mod's page with screenshots of the display.

Use cases

Caving

Underground, the display warns the player of nearby hostile creatures before they come into view.

Exploring with mobs around

Players moving through open terrain can keep track of which living entities are close by.

Who it’s for: Players who want more awareness of nearby creatures, especially those who explore caves. Server owners can add it to a server, since only the server needs the mod installed.
