Endless Day

by Craisst

Endless Day lets a player change how fast the day passes, and even make the sun move in the opposite direction, through a set of commands.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

Endless Day controls the day and night cycle with commands. Its speed setting runs from -20 to 20 and defaults to 1, and a time shift option from 1 to 5 sets how long a day lasts. Daily cycle is off by default, so the vanilla gamerule doDaylightCycle has to be set to false before the mod's own cycle takes over. The day can be started and stopped from the command line, and a play switch turns the cycle on for a world.

Clients and servers both need the mod, since the time logic runs on the server and the client must match it. Endless Day is published for Forge and NeoForge, with files for 1.20.1, 1.20.4, 1.20.6 and 1.21.1. The newest Forge build, 0.3.18, targets 1.20.1, and the newest NeoForge build, 0.7.2, targets 1.21.1. The mod is not open source; its code is released under All rights reserved.

Key features

  1. Adjustable day speed

A speed value from -20 to 20 sets how quickly time passes, and a negative value reverses the sun's direction.

  2. Time shift setting

A shift value from 1 to 5 changes the length of a day, so a single day can last several times longer.

  3. Command-driven cycle

Starting, stopping and resetting the day cycle is done with eday commands, with no config file needed for each change.

  4. Daily cycle toggle

An option controls whether the mod's cycle is active, defaulting to off until a player enables it.

How it compares

Full comparison

Extended Time is server-side only, open source under the MIT License, and covers 1.19.2 – 1.21.8 on Forge and NeoForge, so it changes time without any client install. Daily Weather is also server-side only and carries a Creative Commons license that is not open source, with files for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1 on Forge and NeoForge, the same range as Endless Day. Endless Day needs both sides and is not open source.

Questions

Does Endless Day need to be installed on the server?

Yes. Servers that run it need every player to install it too.

Why does the day not change after installing Endless Day?

The vanilla daylight cycle must be turned off first with the command gamerule doDaylightCycle false. The mod's own daily cycle is off by default and has to be switched on with the eday play command.

Which loader should be chosen for Endless Day?

Endless Day is published for both Forge and NeoForge. Forge files cover 1.20.1, 1.20.4 and 1.20.6, and NeoForge files cover 1.21.1, so the loader depends on the game version used.
