Dynamic FPS Reforged
by N4TH4NOT
Dynamic FPS Reforged is a Forge client mod that lowers frame rendering work when the game window is not in focus, rebuilt for 1.19.2 by N4TH4NOT.
What it does
When the game window loses focus, the mod automatically reduces the frame rate Minecraft renders, so the processor and graphics card spend less effort on a window the player is not looking at. Hidden renders are held down to a low rate and return to normal once the window is focused again.
The mod also works around a vanilla behaviour that uses more processing than necessary in the background, which it corrects. Only the client needs it; a server can run without it, and players on a server with it installed gain nothing extra during play. Forge is the only loader supported, with files for 1.19.2, 1.19.3 and 1.19.4 under the MIT License, and the latest file, 3.4.4, targets 1.19.2 and dates from 14 June 2024.
The source code and issue tracker are public, and the author states that suggestions for improvements and ports to other loaders are welcome. The original project covers Neo Forge, Fabric and Quilt for 1.16.5 and later, and this page covers the Forge branch only, which is kept updated in its own repository.
Key features
Focus-based frame limit
Rendering drops to a reduced frame rate while the Minecraft window is in the background and rises again when it regains focus.
Background render reduction
Frames that nobody sees are skipped or held back, so less work is done on the graphics card and processor.
Vanilla background fix
A background performance issue in vanilla Minecraft is corrected, so the game stops consuming resources it does not need while idle.
Client-side operation
Install it on the client only; it changes nothing on the server side and needs no matching setup on other players' machines.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
How it compares
Cull Less Leaves Reforged is a Forge client mod for 1.18.2 – 1.20.2 under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and it targets leaf rendering rather than background frame handling. Entity Collision FPS Fix is a Fabric and Forge client mod for 1.19 – 1.19.2 under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, and it reduces the cost of entity collision checks rather than frame rendering.

What the author says
Dynamic FPS automatically reduces the speed at which minecraft renders when it's not focused (to 1 FPS) or hidden (no renders at all). It also fixes a bug in Vanilla Minecraft that makes it take much more performance in the background than it should. DISCONTINUED 1.16.5+ FOR ALL MOD LOADERS, GO TO THE ORIGINAL MOD…
