Draw In Books

by zZzZOBRA

Draw In Books adds a drawing mode to Minecraft's book screen, so a player can sketch directly onto a Book Quill beside the written text.

FabricClient required, server optionalGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source26.2 – 26.3

What it does

A small toolbar appears next to the book screen once a player opens a book and clicks to start drawing. Pens, ink colors and brush sizes are chosen there, and a color can be picked straight off the page. Drawings stay on the page after the book is signed, and they remain when the book is placed on a lectern, so any reader sees the picture alongside the text. The book screen is enlarged by one GUI scale step while drawing, and the change can be turned off in the in-game settings.

Drawings are stored on the item itself, so they move with the book when it goes into a chest, a trade or a shulker box. Players without the mod see the normal text, while players who run it see the drawings. The mod runs on the client and requires Fabric API. A server plugin version for Paper, Spigot, Bukkit and Purpur lets the drawing feature work on survival servers where everyone does not install the mod. Builds cover 26.2 – 26.3, and the code is licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later, so the project is open source.

Key features

  1. Drawing on Book Quills

Players sketch directly on a Book Quill next to text that is already written, without a separate item.

  2. Color and undo controls

Ink colors are picked from the page, a middle click on the current ink switches color, and a keyboard shortcut removes the last stroke.

  3. Larger book screen

Ctrl+G raises the book screen by one GUI scale step, and the default brush sizes and toolbar position can be adjusted.

  4. Drawings kept with the book

Signed books, lecterns and stored books keep their pictures, and other players can see them.

What the author says

Draw In Books is a client-side mod that lets you draw directly in Book & Quill, right next to the text you can already write. Open a book, click ✎, and start drawing. The best part is that other players who have the mod will also see your drawings, while players without the mod will simply see a normal book.
