Designer Modeling
by gmff
Designer Modeling lets builders shrink Minecraft blocks to a 1/16 scale, so fine architectural and furniture detail can be placed in a world.
What it does
The mod adds a scaled-down block system aimed at detailed building and decoration work. Players place invisible sub-blocks in the world, shape them with scale values such as -16 x -16 x -16, and combine many small pieces into a single model. Blocks can be rotated by shift-clicking a slot, and the face directions are labeled for the front, left, back and right sides as well as the top and bottom.
Installation takes a Forge installer and the mod file placed in the mods folder of the Minecraft profile. Designer Modeling supports Fabric, Forge and Quilt across five release versions, 1.12.2 – 1.20.1, and is distributed under All rights reserved, so it is not open source. The client and server both need the mod, so a multiplayer world has to run it on the server as well as on every player's game.
The most recent build, 4.5.5, targets 1.20.1 on all three loaders and was published on 2026-08-12. Earlier releases cover 1.12.2, 1.16.5, 1.18.2 and 1.19.2, and the first version was released on 2025-05-11.
Key features
Shrunken block placement
Blocks are placed at a 1/16 scale, which lets builders model small parts such as trim, panels and furniture details.
Invisible sub-blocks
Players place invisible blocks in the world and right-click them to add or remove pieces of a model.
Rotation controls
Holding shift while clicking a slot rotates the selected block, with labeled directions for each face.
Scale adjustments
Model scale values can be set to negative numbers such as -16, which changes how the shrunken pieces are arranged.
