DeeperCaves

by valiec

DeeperCaves adds cave structures reaching far below the bedrock layer, where the world's lowest levels were once assumed to end.

ForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.7.10

What it does

The mod generates underground areas beneath the bedrock floor that vanilla worlds normally hide, with pits about 200 blocks deep, mazes, caverns and compressed ore blocks. Several named levels are placed in layers below the previously assumed bottom of the Overworld, and further levels extend that depth into the darkest and most remote parts of the world.

DeeperCaves is a Forge mod for 1.7.10 only, published under the MIT License and open source. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. The project publishes its source code, an issue tracker and a wiki, and the current Forge file is 1.0.2 for 1.7.10, dated 2025-05-24. The mod was first published on 2022-01-10.

Key features

  1. Deep cave levels

Caverns and pits extend below the bedrock layer, giving exploration past the usual bottom of the world.

  2. Named underground levels

Each level has its own theme, from crystal caverns and plains to mazes and a final labyrinth.

  3. Compressed ore blocks

Compressed ore blocks are added alongside the cave levels for mining deeper in the world.

  4. Ametrine with mob attraction

The Ametrine item attracts nearby mobs, which changes how fights in the deep levels play out.

Use cases

Exploring below bedrock

Players who want to see what lies under the bedrock floor can travel into the deep levels from the surface.

Harvesting compressed ores

Compressed ore blocks in the deep levels give a target for digging past the usual limits.

Who it’s for: Players of 1.7.10 who want to explore the underground past the bedrock, and server owners who want deeper cave content on a Forge server.
