FarLands

by valiec

FarLands restores the world-edge behavior of Minecraft 1.7.10, where terrain past a fixed distance from spawn was no longer generated in the familiar way.

ForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.7.10

What it does

In 1.7.10 the Far Lands appeared at a fixed distance from the world origin, a glitch that was present by default until the Beta series. FarLands brings that behavior back for players who want it, and the mod is built for 1.7.10 on Forge.

Its configuration sets how far from spawn a player can start before reaching the Far Lands, so a server or single-player world can match the distance the author intends without traveling 12,550,820 blocks. The mod runs on the client and the server together, and both sides need it for the setting to apply.

The mod also contacts a version-check URL when it starts. Each request increments a counter on that address, which gives the author a rough count of how many times the mod has been requested. The author notes that the mod does not collect player data beyond that count, and that the author would like to know which modpacks include it. The code is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Far Lands restoration

Restores the terrain boundary found in 1.7.10 and earlier Beta builds.

  2. Configurable start distance

Lets the server choose how far from the origin a player can begin before the boundary is reached.

  3. Single purpose

The mod changes only the world boundary and does nothing else to generation or gameplay.

Questions

Does FarLands need to be installed on the server?

Yes. The environment is client and server, so the server and every player need the mod for the boundary and the start distance setting to behave the same way.

Which Minecraft version does FarLands support?

Only 1.7.10. The latest Forge file is 1.0.1 for 1.7.10, published on 2022-07-19, and no other game version has files.

Does FarLands send data from the game?

The mod sends a request to a version-check URL, which increments a counter on that address. The author notes that player data is not sent, and the count only reflects how often the request is made.

What the author says

This mod brings back the Far Lands, which were present in the default game until Beta 1.8. However, this mod does more than just bring them back. It also allows you to configure the distance at which they start, so that they are reachable without travelling 12,550,820 blocks. Note: The mod connects to a server every…
