DeathLog

by glisco

Players who die often can look back through DeathLog, which keeps a record of each death with coordinates, dimension and inventory contents.

FabricQuiltClient or server, optionalMIT LicenseOpen source1.16.2 – 1.21.3

What it does

DeathLog runs on the client and logs deaths in every world and server a player joins. Each entry stores metadata such as coordinates, the dimension, the world or server name and the full inventory at the moment of death. Since version 0.2.0 the mod can also run on a server and record every player's deaths on that server, and it includes a built-in way to restore a death snapshot.

The mod requires oωo (owo-lib) to run. Either side can run it, and neither needs it, so a client or a server can install it alone. Managing the server's database is noticeably simpler when a client with DeathLog is connected. Builds exist for Fabric and Quilt across 22 release versions, 1.16.2 – 1.21.3, and the code is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Death messages

Each death is written to a log with the cause and the time it happened, so earlier deaths can be checked later.

  2. Item names

Lost items are listed by name in the log, showing what was on the character at death.

  3. Coordinates and world names

Entries record where the death happened and which world or server it was, including the dimension.

  4. Item recovery

In creative mode, clicking a lost item with the mouse wheel recovers it. Without creative mode, the mod copies a matching /give command instead.

Use cases

Reviewing a run

A player can scroll back through earlier deaths to see where they happened and what items were lost.

Server death tracking

A server owner can record the deaths of all players and restore a death snapshot from the server side.

Who it’s for: Players who want a record of their deaths on single-player worlds or multiplayer servers, and server owners who want to track deaths for every player.

Questions

Does DeathLog need oωo (owo-lib)?

Yes. oωo (owo-lib) is a required dependency and must be installed alongside DeathLog.

Does DeathLog have to be installed on the server?

No. It works on the client or the server, and neither side requires it, though server database management is easier with a DeathLog-enabled client.

Files are published for Fabric and Quilt, with builds covering 1.16.2 – 1.21.3. The latest file is 0.4.1+1.21.2 for 1.21.3, in the beta channel.

What the author says

DeathLog tracks your deaths in all worlds and servers. It does this completely client-side and records important metadata like coordinates, dimension and even your entire inventory. Since version 0.2.0 onward, DeathLog can also operate server-side and track all deaths of all players on that server, with native…
