Days Gone By
by ActiveRadar
Days Gone By counts the days a world has passed and turns each morning after sleep into a dramatic counter increase with sound.
What it does
When a player wakes up in the morning, the day counter jumps forward with a sound effect and a visual display, and the mod keeps track of how many days have gone by in the world. The effect is intentionally over the top, and the mechanics, visuals and audio are split apart so each part can be adjusted separately.
Both the server and the client need the mod, because the day count and the display are handled on both sides. The author notes that it uses mixins and is meant to work alongside most other mods, though the author has not tested it in modded dimensions. Files are published for Forge and NeoForge across seven game versions, 1.20.1 – 1.21.1, under All rights reserved, so the license does not permit redistribution or modification.
Key features
Day counter
The mod shows how many days have passed in the world, updated each time the player sleeps through to morning.
Custom sound effect
The morning sound can be replaced by putting a custom.ogg file into a resource pack's dgb asset folder.
Configurable timing
A delay setting in the config files controls how long the countdown animation takes to render.
Split configuration
Mechanics, visuals and audio are separated, and the settings live in daysgoneby-client.toml and daysgoneby-common.toml.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Modpacks
Pack makers can keep the counter and tune its humor and intensity for a specific pack.
Pack-specific sounds
Creators can ship their own morning sound through a resource pack, without changing the mod's code.
Who it’s for: Players who want a comedic day counter in a modpack, and pack authors who want to tune or replace its sound and timing.
How it compares
Days Played Counter is a counter with a broader version range, 1.20.1 – 26.1.2, and it also ships for Fabric, while Days Gone By is limited to Forge and NeoForge. Days Played Counter is closed source under All rights reserved, the same as this mod. HLSubstance is open source under the MIT License and covers 1.20.1 – 1.21.1 for Forge and NeoForge, so it is the open source choice on the same loaders.

What the author says
It's still in development, but I need feedback on bugs. Every morning or every time you have slept, you'll get a dramatic day counter increase with a sound effect attached for maximum dramaticness.
