DarkDeath

by GamerPotionDev

DarkDeath is a server-side command mod that lets a player's character be killed on demand, which helps when potion effects leave a character stuck.

What it does

A command named darkdeath kills the character that runs it instantly, so a player stuck in a bad state, such as held in place by levitation or slowfall or caught on a particular block, can return to normal play. The author describes it as a simple way for admins to step in when a player cannot control their character. The command is the only action the mod provides.

The mod runs on the server only, so players join without installing anything, and it requires Fabric API on Fabric. Files are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, with builds for 1.20.1, 1.20.3, 1.20.4, 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2 and 26.2. The latest files target 26.2 for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and 1.20.1 for Quilt. The license is All rights reserved, so the code is not open source.

The author also created DarkRPG, a full RPG experience with quests and RPG gameplay, and offers it as part of a modpack. DarkDeath stands apart from that work, since it only handles the death command and adds no quests or progression. It can be used alongside DarkInventory to keep inventory on death.

Key features

  1. Death command

The darkdeath command instantly kills the character that runs it, ending a stuck state without a restart.

  2. Server-side operation

Only the server needs the mod, and players join without installing it.

  3. Stuck-state recovery

Covers cases where levitation, slowfall or a block keeps a character from moving or controlling it.

Use cases

Admin recovery on servers

Server administrators can trigger the command when a player cannot control their character, then let the player resume normal play.

Single-player recovery

The command can also be used in single-player worlds when a character is stuck and needs a reset.

Who it’s for: Server owners and administrators who run Fabric, Forge, NeoForge or Quilt servers and want a quick way to reset a stuck player. Players in single-player worlds with the same problem can use it too.

Questions

Does DarkDeath need to be installed on the client?

No. It runs on the server alone, so players need nothing extra to join. The server must still run Fabric API on Fabric.

Which game versions does DarkDeath support?

Files exist for 1.20.1, 1.20.3, 1.20.4, 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2 and 26.2, with the latest Fabric, Forge and NeoForge files built for 26.2 and the latest Quilt file for 1.20.1.

Can DarkDeath keep inventory when a character dies?

The author notes that DarkInventory can be installed alongside DarkDeath to keep the inventory after a death triggered by the command.
