Custom Villager Professions

by SpaceCat97

With Custom Villager Professions, modpack authors and developers can register their own villager professions and the points of interest blocks those villagers work at.

FabricForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.19.2 – 1.20.1

What it does

The mod lets a developer define a new villager profession in data files. When the game starts, the mod reads those files and registers each profession, tying it to a point-of-interest block that the villager uses as its workstation. Custom textures for these villagers can be supplied through resource packs, so a new profession can look different from the vanilla ones.

Architectury API is a required dependency and must be installed next to Custom Villager Professions on both Fabric and Forge. The mod is published for 1.19.2 and 1.20.1 on both loaders. The latest files, 20.4.0 for 1.20.1, were released on 2024-02-01. Custom Villager Professions runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. The code is not open source: it is covered by All rights reserved, and the project keeps a public issue tracker and wiki.

The mod's full guide to custom professions is on the wiki, which covers the data format and the POI block setup. Before asking for help in the issue tracker, the author asks that players check the wiki first. Some features require the latest version of the mod, so updating is recommended when a newer build is available.

Key features

  1. Custom villager professions

Developers add new professions to villagers without changing vanilla code, using data files the mod reads at load.

  2. Profession POI blocks

Each custom profession is tied to a registered point-of-interest block that villagers use as their workplace.

  3. Resource pack textures

Custom textures for the new villagers are applied through resource packs, so artists can change their appearance separately.

  4. Modpack-ready setup

The data-driven registration suits modpacks that need extra villager jobs for their own quests and trades.
