Crosshair Item Count

by Nhbybnb

With Crosshair Item Count, the inventory a player looks at shows its most common item and quantity under the crosshair.

FabricClient-side onlyAll rights reserved1.20.1

What it does

When the crosshair points at a chest, barrel or similar container, the mod displays the item stack that appears most often in it, along with the total count. The readout is small and sits beneath the crosshair, so it stays out of the way of the main view. It is a client-side mod: only the player's game needs it, and servers run without it.

The mod is aimed at builders, redstone engineers and anyone who organizes storage and would rather not open every box to check it. It works in both survival and creative mode. Its display is kept light so it can sit alongside other HUD and performance mods. Crosshair Item Count is published for Fabric only, with a single file for 1.20.1 dated 2025-05-08, and is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source.

Key features

  1. Most common item readout

The container under the crosshair shows the item stack that occurs most frequently inside it.

  2. Quantity display

Next to the item icon, the mod shows how many of that item the container holds.

  3. Subtle overlay

The icon and count appear quietly beneath the crosshair instead of covering the screen.

  4. Survival and creative support

The readout works in both survival and creative modes, with no change needed to switch between them.

Use cases

Sorting a storage room

Walking past labeled-free chests, a player can read the dominant item of each one without opening it.

Redstone and automated builds

Engineers checking which chest feeds a machine can confirm its contents from the crosshair alone.

Who it’s for: Builders, redstone engineers and players who keep large storage systems and want a quick look at what each container holds without opening it.

How it compares

Full comparison

Item On Chest is a Fabric mod for 1.20 – 1.20.4, open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, and it is client-side only. Craft From Chests is a Fabric mod for 1.21.1 – 1.21.11 that runs on client and server, so both sides need it, and it is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source. Crosshair Item Count differs from both by targeting only 1.20.1 and staying client-side only.
