Creepy Horror Sounds
by arjon0281
Creepy Horror Sounds plays unsettling audio cues at random moments, so a player never knows when the next whisper will come.
What it does
Three horror audio tracks are played at unpredictable times. A chance-based timer triggers a sound every 3 to 13 minutes, and each cue is positioned in 3D space so it seems to come from a particular direction. The sounds use the ambient category, which lets players balance them against music and effects in the audio settings.
The mod is aimed at survival play, horror modpacks and streams where an ambient layer of tension is wanted. It is client-side only, so a server does not need to run it and players join without changing anything on the server side. Files exist for Forge, with builds covering 1.19.2 – 1.20.3 and 1.2 for 1.20.3 as the latest file, released under the MIT License. The code is not open source.
Key features
Three horror tracks
Three distinct creepy audio tracks are included, so the sounds do not repeat as quickly as a single clip would.
Random timing
A timer with a chance-based trigger plays a sound at intervals between 3 and 13 minutes.
Positional audio
Each sound is played in 3D, placed near the player, which adds to the sense that something is nearby.
Light performance cost
The sounds are short clips played on a timer, and the author describes the impact on frame rate as minimal.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Survival atmosphere
Players who want an unsettling tone while gathering resources and building at night can keep the mod enabled during regular play.
Horror modpacks
Modpack authors can use the mod as an ambient layer alongside scary visuals and mechanics.
Who it’s for: Players and streamers who want random horror audio in single-player or on a multiplayer server, without installing anything on the server.
How it compares
Creepy Decorations is open source under the MIT License for Forge 1.19.2 – 1.20.1, and its environment is client and server, so the server and every player must run it. Not Enough Horror is also MIT-licensed for the same versions and needs both sides, but it is not open source. Sounds of the Forest is licensed as All rights reserved, covers 1.19.2 – 1.20.1 and likewise requires client and server. Creepy Horror Sounds, by contrast, is client-side only and covers 1.19.2 – 1.20.3.
