Creaking Control
by EnderBC
Creaking Control lets a player steer a creaking mob through a Creaking Heart, using WASD keys once the heart is linked and a focus item is applied.
What it does
The mod gives the creaking heart a new role by letting players control the creaking it produces. Players can direct movement with WASD, and attacking a creaking heart draws a particle trail connecting it to the mob. Sprinting is restricted to a dedicated focus item, so ordinary creakings keep their normal behavior.
Only the server needs to run Creaking Control, while players may leave it out of their clients. It is built for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and the Creaking Control datapack variant is listed for data pack servers. Files cover game version 1.21.4 only, and the latest file is 1.0+mod for 1.21.4, published 2024-12-07 on the beta channel. The mod is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.
Crafting and focusing are handled through item recipes. A creaking heart is edited with four copper ingots around it, and focus items are made from echo shards or resin shards, with an ender pearl also usable. Focused hearts emit particles matching the focus color, and a creaking compass built from eight resin bricks tracks a creaking after the player is hit.
Key features
WASD creaking control
Players steer a linked creaking with the WASD keys instead of leaving it to its default wandering.
Focus items
Right-clicking a creaking heart with an echo shard, resin shard or ender pearl focus changes how the heart behaves, and the focus is consumed on use.
Creaking compass
A compass crafted from resin bricks locks onto a creaking after the player is struck and resets when that creaking dies.
Particle trail
Attacking a creaking heart draws a particle trail that connects the heart to the controlled creaking.

What the author says
Creaking Control is a datapack that lets you control creakings by altering that creaking's heart This idea came to my mind the exact moment Mojang talked about how the creaking was a puppet of the creaking heart. However, since then much has changed and it took me a lot to make the pack work. Also it's not finished…
