Better Creaking

by Snicker-Nee-Yo

Better Creaking changes how the creaking mob fights in Minecraft, with stronger attacks, a petrification meter and the option to turn these changes off.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalGNU Affero General Public License v3.0 only1.21.4 – 1.21.5

What it does

Creaking becomes harder to handle with buffs to its speed and damage, and hitting it repeatedly builds up petrification. A fully petrified creaking is immobilized for a short time and gives the attacker blindness. A meter above the hotbar shows how far the petrification has progressed, so a player can see when the mob is about to freeze.

The changes are tuned for night in the Pale Garden biome, where creakings appear. Server owners can switch the feature off with commands, and it is enabled by default. A datapack included with the mod also addresses two separate issues in the base game. The server needs the mod, while players may add it for the meter but do not have to.

Key features

  1. Stronger creaking

Creaking gets increased speed and damage, changing the fight from the base game's underpowered mob.

  2. Petrification

Repeated hits make a creaking more petrified until it becomes immobilized for a short time.

  3. Blindness on petrify

A petrified creaking inflicts blindness on the player who petrified it.

  4. Petrification meter

A meter above the hotbar shows how far the creaking's petrification has progressed.

  5. Toggleable changes

Commands turn the feature off on a server, and the changes are enabled by default.

What the author says

The Creaking is a very underpowered mob that is also completely avoidable in the base game. This datapack seeks to fix these 2 issues
