Cosmic Horror

by adalances

Cosmic Horror is a psychological horror mod for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge that slowly alters a Minecraft world players already know, instead of filling it with monsters.

What it does

Players spawn into a world that starts out ordinary but gradually becomes stranger. Unseen entities linger just outside perception, creatures watch from places that should not exist, and the moon and time can behave wrongly. Darkness is treated as an absence of light, and hidden mechanics respond to what the player does and what surrounds them. More than ten unique events occur naturally during play, and rare encounters grow more unsettling the longer a player survives.

The mod is built around a hidden story about the disappearance of humanity. Secrets, lore and mysteries are placed for players to find as days pass and the world becomes increasingly unnatural. Jumpscares are unpredictable and used sparingly so that the player stays on edge. The design draws on the cosmic dread of early twentieth-century weird fiction and is meant for single-player play. It is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.

Installation needs Cloth Config API on every loader, and Fabric API on Fabric. Only the player's game needs it, and servers run without it. Builds exist for 1.20.1, 1.21.1 and 26.1, with the latest Fabric and Forge file at 1.0.0 for 1.21.1 and the latest NeoForge file at 1.0.0 for 26.1.

Key features

  1. Unseen presences

Entities linger beyond sight and whisper through fog, so the player often senses something without seeing it.

  2. Natural events

More than ten unique events happen on their own during play, changing the world without a command or trigger.

  3. Distorted world

The sky, moon and clock can behave in ways that break the familiar rules of the world.

  4. Hidden story

Lore and mysteries are scattered through the world and revealed by players who explore and investigate.

What the author says

### The moment you create a new world... everything changes. Cosmic Horror is a psychological horror mod inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Instead of filling your world with constant monsters, it slowly twists the Minecraft you already know into something that feels wrong.
