Copy Block ID
by waterflane
Copy Block ID is a client-side utility that copies registry IDs to the clipboard with Ctrl+C while the cursor hovers over an item, fluid, block or entity.
What it does
Hovering over an item in the inventory and pressing Ctrl+C copies its registry ID. The same key works on ingredients shown in JEI or REI and on fluids, including fluids in tooltips. Optionally the mod copies the ID of the targeted block, or of the block entity and entity in the world, so a player can paste it into a command or a config file without looking it up.
Each copy shows a short in-game notification confirming what was copied. The mod creates a client config file where the block and entity options are set to true or false, and it stays out of the way of chat and other focused text fields. Copy Block ID runs on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, is released under the MIT License and is open source; its files for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 were first published on 2026-05-19 and last updated on 2026-06-27.
Key features
Inventory item IDs
Ctrl+C over a hovered inventory slot copies the registry ID of the item in it.
JEI and REI ingredients
Ingredient entries in JEI and REI can be copied the same way, without opening a separate list.
Fluid IDs
Fluids can be copied from the hovered tooltip, including fluid IDs shown there.
Targeted block and entity
Optional settings copy the block ID or the entity ID the player is looking at in the world.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Writing datapacks
A datapack author can copy an item or block ID straight into a recipe or loot table file.
Running commands
Players and server operators can paste a copied ID into a give or setblock command.
Who it’s for: Players who edit datapacks, use commands or check mod content in JEI and REI. Because it is client-side, it is installed by each player and needs nothing on a server.
How it compares
WhatI'mPressing is also open source under the MIT License, client-side only and published for 1.20 – 26.2 on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, so it covers a wider range of versions. Item Id Copy is client-side only as well, but it is Forge-only, covers 1.20.1 – 1.20.6 and is released under the Apache License 2.0 without being open source. Copy Block ID stays on 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, all three loaders, and is open source under the MIT License.
