Conium

by cao-awa

Conium is a Fabric scripting framework that lets players build complete mods using datapacks and scripts rather than Java code.

FabricClient and serverGNU General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.21.3 – 26.3

What it does

Conium provides a datapack-based script framework for modern Minecraft, so features can be written without Java coding. Its scripting system can run entirely on the server side, and with the full Conium feature set a client has to synchronize datapacks and scripts with the server before they work.

The framework supports bedrock scripting APIs, with TypeScript grammar and MoLang support built on that base. Its scripting requires Fabric API and Fabric Language Kotlin, which must both be installed alongside it. Conium is published for Fabric only, and the project states that NeoForge support cannot be completed because of a conflict between the secure jar handler and Kotlin, so no NeoForge files exist.

Key features

  1. Datapack scripting

Scripts placed in datapacks let creators add behavior to a world without writing Java code.

  2. Server-side execution

The scripting system runs on the server, and clients receive synchronized datapacks and scripts for the full feature set.

  3. Bedrock-style script APIs

The bedrock scripting APIs are available, with TypeScript grammar and MoLang expressions supported.

  4. Startup console messages

On launch, the console shows a random Hitokoto chosen from a list, which accepts only English and Japanese entries.

Use cases

Scripted mods without Java

Creators can assemble a complete mod from datapacks and scripts, using the framework's bedrock-style APIs instead of compiled code.

Server-hosted behavior

Server owners can run scripted logic on the server while players join with the same datapacks and scripts synchronized to them.

Who it’s for: Datapack and script authors who want to build features without Java, and server owners who host scripted content. Contributors are asked to discuss ideas with the core team before opening pull requests, since unannounced pull requests are declined.

Questions

Does Conium need Fabric API and Fabric Language Kotlin?

Yes. Both are required dependencies and must be installed alongside Conium on Fabric.

Does Conium work on NeoForge?

No. The project says NeoForge support cannot be completed because of a conflict between the secure jar handler and Kotlin, so the mod is published for Fabric only.

Do clients need Conium for scripted features?

Yes. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too.
