Configurable Beacons

by AdyTech99

Configurable Beacons lets server owners change the range and effect duration of beacons, with settings for each beacon level, and it can keep beacons loaded when they are out of view.

What it does

The mod makes beacon effects adjustable. Its configuration menu sets the radius and the duration of the effects for each beacon level, from level 1 through level 4, so a server can tune beacons to its own pace of play. Changes made in the menu apply immediately, and the same values can be edited by hand in the ConfigurableBeaconConfig.json file inside the config folder.

A separate option keeps beacons loaded. Ordinarily a beacon stops ticking once it leaves the render distance of a player, which means its effects and progress pause. The force loader setting keeps a beacon active wherever it sits, and it is disabled by default, so a server owner must turn it on in the config screen to use it.

Installation needs Fabric API and YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL), both required, and Mod Menu is optional but gives access to the settings screen. Configurable Beacons is server-side only, so players join without installing it, and it is published for Fabric across seven release versions, 1.20.1 – 1.21. It is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only and is open source.

Key features

  1. Per-level radius

The radius of the beacon effect can be set separately for levels 1, 2, 3 and 4.

  2. Effect duration

How long beacon effects last can be changed, so the pace of the effects can match the server.

  3. Force loading

An option keeps a beacon ticking when it is outside the render distance, and it is off until enabled in the config screen.

  4. In-game settings screen

Mod Menu opens a settings screen where radius and effect values are adjusted, and changes take effect at once.

Force Beacon Load is also a server-required mod for Fabric, built around keeping beacons loaded, and it is open source under the MIT License for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1. Better Beacon Range is server-side only and open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, with files for 1.21.4 – 1.21.11, so it targets newer game versions than this mod.

Questions

Does Configurable Beacons need Fabric API and YACL?

Yes. Fabric API and YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL) are both required and must be installed next to Configurable Beacons on Fabric.

Do players need the mod installed?

No. It runs on the server alone, so players need nothing extra to join.

Why are beacons not active far away without the force loader?

Beacons stop ticking once they leave the render distance of a player. The force loader option keeps them active and is disabled by default.

Which game versions does Configurable Beacons support?

Files are published for 1.20.1, 1.20.2, 1.20.3, 1.20.4, 1.20.5, 1.20.6 and 1.21, and the latest file is 4.0.0 for 1.21, released on 2024-07-04.
