Conditional Proxy Mod Initializers
by Feintha
Conditional Proxy Mod Initializers lets a Fabric mod run its startup code only when another specific mod is present, without crashing when it is missing.
What it does
The library provides a small set of classes for initializing code that depends on other mods. A developer checks whether a named mod exists and registers a proxy initializer that runs in the right stage of loading. Because the mod always loads last, the code can read variables from other mods without race conditions during startup.
Installers only need the library when a mod that relies on it is present. The library runs on client and server, so both sides carry it. Fabric is the only loader supported, with files published for 1.14 – 1.21 and the latest file, 1.0 for 1.21, dated 2024-07-10. The code is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only and is not open source.
Key features
Conditional initializers
Code is registered to run only when a named mod is loaded, so optional integrations stay inactive otherwise.
Required mod lists
The library returns the list of mods a given initializer requires, which helps when checking dependencies at startup.
Initialization state check
Developers can test whether an initializer has already run, which helps avoid repeated setup work.
Environment and type lookup
An initializer reports its environment and type, so code can branch between client and server paths.

Use cases
Optional mod integrations
A mod can hook into another mod's content only when that mod is installed, and skip the hook otherwise.
Setup after other mods load
Code that needs variables from other mods can run after they are available, instead of during early loading.
Datapack reload handling
The mod includes an example of running code on datapack reload, a case where the timing of initialization matters.
Who it’s for: Fabric mod developers who write integrations with optional dependencies and need their startup code to run only when those dependencies are present.
