Colormatic

by kvverti

With Colormatic installed, a resource pack can change the hard-coded colors of grass, leaves, sky, fog, particles and lightmaps that vanilla Minecraft fixes in its code.

What it does

Vanilla Minecraft sets many colors in code, so a resource pack alone cannot alter them. Colormatic exposes these colors to resource packs, which can then define new values for grass, foliage, sky, fog, particles and lightmaps. Biome colormaps can be stacked, so several packs can layer their changes on top of one another.

The mod also reads the custom colors format used by Optifine, so packs written for that feature keep working in the same parts they cover. Colormatic adds capabilities that Optifine does not offer, and it supports colors for biomes and dimensions added by other mods or datapacks. Its settings screen can be opened from a mod menu. Colormatic requires fabric-resource-loader, which Fabric API provides, and it is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only.

Key features

  1. Grass and foliage colors

Swamp grass, dark oak grass, birch leaves and spruce leaves can each receive colors defined by a resource pack.

  2. Sky and fog colors

Resource packs can set the sky and fog colors that players see in each biome.

  3. Particle and lightmap colors

Particles and lightmaps can be recolored, changing how effects and light levels appear.

  4. Modded and datapack biomes

Colors apply to biomes and dimensions added by mods or datapacks, not only to vanilla ones.

  5. Stackable colormaps

Several resource packs can apply biome colormaps one after another, with later packs adding to earlier ones.

Use cases

Custom biome palettes

A pack author can give a set of biomes their own grass, leaves and sky colors without editing the game files.

Recoloring from an Optifine pack

Players who already use a pack built for Optifine custom colors can use it on Fabric with Colormatic.

Who it’s for: Resource pack authors who want to recolor vanilla or modded biomes, and players who use color-changing packs on Fabric or Quilt.
