Colored Shulkers

by jbredwards

Colored Shulkers adds dyed Shulker Boxes, colored Shulker Shells and a rare Rainbow Shulker to Minecraft Java Edition for Forge 1.12.2.

ForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.12.2

What it does

The mod gives Shulker Boxes a color by dyeing them with a Forge-recognized dye, and it lets players wash a colored box back to plain with a water bottle. Shulker entities also carry a color, so a colored Shulker drops a matching Shulker Shell. The mod backports the purple Shulker Box from Vanilla 1.13, and a colorless box keeps working as it did before.

Colored Shulkers is client and server, so the server and every player need it. Its files are published for Forge 1.12.2 only, and the latest build is 1.0.0, released 2026-08-30. The author notes that it adds shulker entities and new dyes, which are also generated in End Cities, and it integrates with Bookshelf's ore dictionary entries. The code is closed: the mod is licensed as All rights reserved, so it is not open source, though public links to its source and issue tracker exist.

Key features

  1. Dyed Shulker Boxes

Shulker Boxes take on a color when dyed with a matching dye, and the color can be removed again.

  2. Colored Shulker Shells

Shulker entities of each color drop shells in that color, which are used to craft and dye boxes.

  3. Rainbow Shulker Box

A rare Rainbow Shulker Box cycles through colors with a fading effect, and its shells shatter when used.

  4. Purple Shulker Box

A separate purple box follows the Vanilla 1.13 version, and Bauble Shulker Boxes support it.

Use cases

Decorating builds

Dyed boxes let builders color storage in bases and villages without changing how the boxes work.

Adding loot variety

Colored shells dropped by Shulkers and found in End Cities give players a reason to explore those mobs.

Who it’s for: Players who want more color in their storage and Shulker mobs, and server owners who run Forge 1.12.2 and want the feature on both sides.

What the author says

Colored Shulkers hopes to make Shulkers a little more interesting and less overlooked in heavily modded playthroughs (at least a little bit:P) by allowing colored Shulkers to appear in End Cities and by giving Shulker Shells new uses! This mod does not add any new Shulker entities. Fun fact: The color of a Shulker…
