Cobblemon KO Shiny

by tmetcalfe89

Cobblemon KO Shiny raises the chance of shiny Pokémon for players who defeat wild Pokémon of a species, as a Fabric add-on for Cobblemon.

FabricServer-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.19.2

What it does

Each wild Pokémon a player knocks out adds one to a counter tied to that species. The count is kept for the whole world and does not go back to zero. Wild Pokémon of that species that spawn near the player then gain a higher chance of being shiny as the count climbs.

Chances are grouped into thresholds. By default, a count of 101 or more gives 2 chances, 301 or more gives 3, and 501 or more gives 4. A player who has not reached a threshold gets 1 chance. When several nearby players have reached a threshold for the spawning species, the player with the highest count is the one whose chances apply, and that threshold adds its chances. The distance at which a player's count is considered can be changed in the config; the default is 64 blocks, and the thresholds are configurable too.

The mod is server-side only, so players join without installing it. It requires Cobblemon and Fabric Language Kotlin, and is published for Fabric only, for 1.19.2. The code is open source under the MIT License, and the mod receives bug fixes only going forward. Shiny chance on the other side is set by shinyRate in the Cobblemon config, whose default is 8196.

Key features

  1. Per-species KO counter

Defeating a wild Pokémon raises a counter tied to its species, kept for the whole world.

  2. Threshold-based chances

Counts reaching set thresholds gain extra shiny chances, with defaults at 101, 301 and 501.

  3. Nearby player scope

The counter that applies depends on players within a configurable distance, defaulting to 64 blocks.

  4. Configurable thresholds

The threshold counts and the number of chances each one adds can be changed in the config file.

Questions

Does Cobblemon KO Shiny need Fabric Language Kotlin?

Yes. Fabric Language Kotlin is required alongside Cobblemon, so both must be installed for the mod to run.

Does a player need the mod installed to benefit from it?

No. The mod is server-side only, so the server runs it and players join without installing anything.

Is the KO count ever cleared?

No. The count is kept for the whole world and does not go back to zero, so earlier knockouts keep adding to later chances.

What the author says

This mod will only receive bug fixes going forward. Cobblemon Unchained makes it so that this mod and a handful of others I made surrounding Pokémon spawning could play well together. Increase your chances of getting a shiny Pokemon by KOing wild versions of it!
