ChunkMill

by Codx

ChunkMill is a server-side chunk pregenerator that fills a world ahead of players, with queued and scheduled runs.

What it does

Pregeneration tasks define a dimension, a shape (square or circle), a center and a radius, and can be reused. A task is added with a command such as adding a spawn task in the overworld with a square of radius 5000 around 0 0. Tasks can be run, queued, paused, cancelled, and their progress is watched live in a clean in-game panel.

Generation is handled by the mod's own engine, which produces chunks in tightly batched bursts and releases generated chunks so that large runs do not grow memory without limit. Smart throttling can adapt its pace to a target milliseconds per tick or hold a fixed chunks-per-tick rate, and an optional auto-pause stops pregeneration while players are online. Big runs can resume automatically after a restart.

The mod requires CodxLib and Fabric API and is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge in 26.1 – 26.1.2, with 26.1, 26.1.1 and 26.1.2 available. It runs on the server alone, so players need nothing extra to join. The code is released under a Creative Commons license that is not open source.

Key features

  1. Batched generation engine

Chunks are generated in tightly batched bursts, and generated chunks are released so long runs keep memory stable.

  2. Named reusable tasks

A pregeneration job is defined once with a dimension, shape, center and radius, then run or queued as needed.

  3. Run queue and live progress

Runs start in order behind the current run, and progress is shown in an in-game panel that can be paused or cancelled.

  4. Time-based scheduler

Tasks can be fired, paused, resumed or cancelled at set times, with days and timezone-aware rules.

  5. Adaptive throttling

Throttling can pace generation to a target milliseconds per tick or to a fixed chunks-per-tick cap, and optional auto-pause keeps generation from competing with players.

Use cases

Preparing a world before launch

A server owner can queue a large square or circle task so players later explore chunks that already exist.

Overnight generation

A scheduled run can start at a set time on chosen days, pausing or resuming on the owner's rules.

Who it’s for: Server owners who want to generate large areas of a world without slowing play. The mod is server-side, so single-player players and clients do not need it.

Questions

Does ChunkMill need CodxLib or Fabric API?

Yes. CodxLib is required on all loaders, and Fabric API is required on Fabric. Both must be installed next to ChunkMill.

Do players need ChunkMill installed?

No. It runs on the server alone, so players need nothing extra to join.

Can a pregeneration run survive a server restart?

Yes. Big runs resume automatically after a restart, so long jobs do not have to be started again by hand.
