chatqalc
by vlad2305m
chatqalc turns the Minecraft chat box into a calculator: type an expression and send it to get a result from the Qalculate engine.
What it does
Once installed, chatqalc runs a portable interactive qalc calculator that starts with the game and can be opened from the chat screen with the T key. Expressions typed there are evaluated by Qalculate, which handles unit conversion such as 1km to m, symbolic calculation and arbitrary precision. Functions, units, variables and constants persist between restarts, and error messages are verbose so a bad input explains what went wrong.
Parsing is fault-tolerant, so input close to natural language still works, and unknown variables can be turned off to reduce confusion. Ctrl+Enter sends the result to the chat as an executed line, Shift+Enter replaces the chat field with the last result, and Ctrl+Shift+Enter broadcasts the result to everyone on the server. Shift+Tab lists completions, and chat history can be queried. Gnuplot plots open in a new window when Gnuplot is installed separately.
The mod runs only on the client, so a server does not need it, and players on a server that lacks it can still use the chat calculator locally. Files are published for Fabric only. The code is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, and Mod Menu is optional.
Key features
Chat-based evaluation
Expressions typed in the chat screen are evaluated by the Qalculate engine and the result can be sent back into chat.
Result sharing shortcuts
Ctrl+Enter, Shift+Enter and Ctrl+Shift+Enter choose whether a result is executed, placed in the field or shared with every player on the server.
Unit and symbolic math
Unit conversion, symbolic calculation and arbitrary precision work from the same input line, with fault-tolerant parsing.
Persistent definitions
Functions, units, variables and constants are kept between restarts, and unknown variables can be disabled.

How it compares
Calculator commands is a Fabric mod for 1.20.2 – 1.20.4 under the MIT License, and it is open source. Chat Vars is Fabric-only, runs on the client alone for 1.20 – 1.20.4 and is not open source, being licensed under the Apache License 2.0. McCalc is open source under the MIT License and covers only 1.19.1, so it does not reach the versions chatqalc supports.
