Chat Twix
by lil_fox
Chat Twix changes how incoming chat messages look and sound on the client, so private messages can be spotted in a busy chat.
What it does
Chat Twix makes chat a little better for the player who reads it. Incoming messages can be restyled with bold, italic and a chosen color, and a sound signal can mark private messages so they are not missed in a busy channel. The chat window can also stay open after a message is sent, so a player can keep typing a series of lines without reopening it.
Sound notifications have their own volume control, so the signal can be set quieter or louder than the rest of the game audio. The mod is published for Fabric only, in two game versions, 1.20 and 1.20.1, and it runs on the client alone, so servers need nothing installed. Chat Twix is open source under the MIT License, and its source code and issue tracker are public.
Key features
Styled incoming messages
Incoming chat lines can be displayed in bold or italic and given a chosen color, so they stand apart from other text.
Private message sound signal
A sound plays when a private message arrives, so a direct message is noticed even when the chat is busy.
Chat stays open after sending
The chat window remains open after a message is sent, allowing several lines to be typed in a row.
Adjustable notification volume
The volume of the sound notification can be lowered or raised separately from the game's other sounds.

Use cases
Busy multiplayer servers
On a server with a fast-moving chat, styled lines and a sound for private messages help a player pick out what is addressed to them.
Typing several lines in a row
Keeping the chat open after each message suits players who send a series of short lines during a group activity.
Who it’s for: Players who read a lot of chat on multiplayer servers and want incoming messages and private messages to stand out, without changing anything on the server.
How it compares
Chat Pimper is a Fabric client mod for 1.19.4 – 1.20.1 under the Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike 4.0 license, not open source. Chat Twix works on the same game versions but is open source under the MIT License. UnhideChat is also open source under the MIT License, covering 1.20 – 1.20.6, so it reaches more game versions than Chat Twix.
