Build a bridge
by Itamio
Build a bridge is a Forge utility that generates bridges across terrain with one command, using presets or a custom template.
What it does
A single command builds a bridge between two points. Four built-in presets are available: railroad, cobblestone with rails, plain cobblestone, stone brick and wooden with oak planks. A custom template can also be defined, and blocks from other mods can be named by their full block name, such as modid:blockname. Validation rejects unknown blocks before anything is placed.
Long spans get automatic support beams placed every 25 to 30 blocks. Each beam descends through air, water, lava and glass until it reaches solid ground, digging up to 5 blocks deeper if needed. Torch platforms and support pillars light railroad bridges, and headroom is cleared so a walker can cross immediately.
The mod is server-side only: players join without installing it, and only the server runs it. It is published for Forge 1.12.2 and requires no additional dependencies. Placed blocks follow the terrain rules already in the world, and the command sits behind a permission check that limits it to operators by default, a setup that fits survival servers. The code is open source under the MIT License.
Key features
Command-based bridges
One command generates a bridge using a chosen preset or a custom template.
Automatic support beams
Beams are placed every 25 to 30 blocks and descend until they reach solid ground, digging up to 5 blocks deeper.
Custom block templates
Blocks from other mods can be used by naming them in full, and unknown blocks are caught by validation.
Permission-restricted command
The command is limited through permissions and is OP-only by default, so it can be opened to other players.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Survival servers
Server owners can give bridge building to trusted players by changing the command permission.
Who it’s for: Server owners and operators who want a quick way to span gaps, rivers and ravines on a 1.12.2 Forge server.
How it compares
Torch Key [Forge] is client-side only, open source under the MIT License and covers 1.7.10 – 1.19.3, so it runs on players' clients rather than the server. Bridge Egg works on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1 – 26.2 and is not open source. Asset Bridge is open source under the MIT License and spans 1.18 – 1.20.1 on Fabric and Forge.
