BreedTimer

by dennis.thegamer96

BreedTimer shows a countdown above each animal or villager that is waiting to breed again or whose baby is still growing up.

FabricNeoForgeClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.21 – 26.3

What it does

Floating labels sit above breedable animals and villagers. A label shows the time left until the next breeding, how long a baby needs to grow up, or the reason a pair cannot breed yet. Ready animals and villagers are marked as soon as they can breed, and love mode is shown while an animal is in it. A breed cooldown for villagers starts once they stop showing heart particles and runs for five minutes.

The mod covers cows, mooshrooms, sheep, pigs, chickens, rabbits, horses, donkeys, mules, llamas, wolves, cats, ocelots, foxes, pandas, goats, camels, sniffer, bees, turtles, axolotls, frogs, striders, hoglins, armadillos, nautiluses, dolphins and sulfur cubes. Villagers get full breed cooldown and baby tracking, tadpoles show a growth timer, and allays have duplication tracking. Chicken and armadillo egg or scute drop timers are available as an opt-in setting.

BreedTimer is a client-side mod for Fabric and NeoForge, so only the player's game needs it. It requires Mod Menu and YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL). Files are published for 1.21 – 26.3, across 17 release versions, under the MIT License, and the source code and issue tracker are public. The latest build for 26.3 was released on 2026-09-27.

Key features

  1. Breed cooldown timers

A countdown shows when an animal or villager can breed again, so players do not need to check each one by hand.

  2. Baby growth timers

The time left before a baby animal, baby villager or tadpole grows up is shown directly above it.

  3. Blocked reason labels

When a pair cannot breed, the label states the reason instead of only showing a timer.

  4. Optional food hints

A setting adds a line under each label naming the food that breeds the animal.

  5. Compact HUD and editor

A compact HUD lists only the counts that matter, with adjustable background opacity, text scale and a drag-and-drop position editor with presets.

Questions

Does BreedTimer need Mod Menu?

Yes. Mod Menu is a required dependency, and YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL) is required as well. Both must be installed for BreedTimer to load.

Does the server need BreedTimer?

No. Only the player's game needs it, and servers run without it.

Can the labels be turned off for animals or villagers separately?

Yes. Show Animals and Show Villagers are separate toggles, and the floating labels can be configured in-game through Mod Menu.
