BlockTuner-forge

by APeng215

BlockTuner-forge gives note blocks a tuning interface, a playable keyboard and MIDI input for Forge 1.20 – 1.20.4.

ForgeClient and serverGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source1.20 – 1.20.4

What it does

Holding Ctrl while placing a note block, or Ctrl with a right click on one, opens a tuning screen for choosing its pitch. Ctrl also shows the note of each block under the crosshair, and right-clicking a note block with a blaze rod plays its note without opening the screen.

A play mode turns the on-screen piano keyboard into an instrument. A toggle decides whether the GUI closes right after a key is clicked, and another lets the computer keyboard play the piano keys. A MIDI device can be connected too: clicking the top-right corner cycles through the available input devices, and a red icon marks a device that is unavailable, usually because another program is using it.

Installation needs Forge API, which must be installed before this mod, and the server needs the mod for it to work. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. Builds cover 1.20 – 1.20.4 on Forge, and the latest file is 1.1.2 for 1.20.4. The code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later.

Key features

  1. Tuning interface

A UI opens for any note block, placed or existing, so its pitch can be set without guessing.

  2. Playable keyboard

The on-screen piano can be played by clicking or by typing on the computer keyboard, with an option to keep the GUI open.

  3. MIDI input

Connected MIDI devices can be selected in turn, and the active device is shown in the corner of the screen.

  4. Blaze rod playing

Right-clicking a note block with a blaze rod plays it directly, letting builders test pitches while building.

Questions

Does BlockTuner-forge need Forge API?

Yes. Forge API is required and must be installed before BlockTuner-forge. Players who have not installed it yet need to add it first.

Does the server need BlockTuner-forge?

Yes. The server and every player need the mod installed.

Why does a MIDI device show a red icon?

A red icon means the device is unavailable. This usually happens when another program is already using it, and closing that program lets the device be selected again.
