Block Event Separator
by Space Walker
With Block Event Separator, pistons and other moving blocks can be watched one block event at a time, which exposes the order a tick normally hides.
What it does
Minecraft runs all block events of a game tick at once, so pistons that start together appear to animate in sync. The mod separates those events by their index and runs them in a fixed order, one after another, so the order in which pistons extend and retract becomes visible within a single tick. Separation happens on the server side and, on the client, block events are separated too, while the server-side behavior stays unchanged.
The mod has three modes, set with the blockeventseparator mode command, and a pace setting controlled by blockeventseparator interval, which takes a value in ticks greater than 0. Its interval slows the game down so each step through the block events can be followed. Moving blocks are also separated by index, which makes piston animations more consistent with each other. Fabric and Quilt are the two loaders that run the mod, and from Minecraft 1.16 onward it can hook into G4mespeed, where the separation mode is chosen under Server Settings and persists in G4mespeed's options across restarts.
Key features
Block event separation
Block events that would otherwise run in the same depth are executed one after another, in index-based order.
Piston order inspection
The order in which pistons extend and retract within a tick is shown, so contraptions can be studied step by step.
Adjustable pace
An interval in ticks, set with a command, controls how fast the game steps through the separated block events.
Consistent piston animations
Moving blocks are created in index order, so piston animations line up more consistently than in vanilla.
Persistent separation mode
With G4mespeed installed, the chosen separation mode is kept in its options and restored after a restart.

What the author says
Block Event Separator allows you to see the inner workings of your piston contraptions by separating block events in real-time. While server-side behavior is perfectly preserved, on the client block events are separated by 1gt worth of time, allowing you to see the order in which pistons extend and/or retract within…
