Blinking Skin Port

by Motschen

Blinking Skin Port brings the second skin layer blinking effect of the 1.12.2 Forge mod to newer Minecraft versions, letting a player's outer skin layers switch on and off on a timer.

What it does

Blinking Skin Port toggles the second skin layers of a player model automatically at a configurable interval, so the outer layers appear and disappear in turn and the skin seems to blink. Minecraft added the second skin layer to cover parts of the player's body, and this mod uses that layer to create the effect. A player needs a skin that includes second layers for the blinking to show.

The mod is a port of Blinking Skin Mod for 1.12.2 and runs on the client only, so players install it alone and servers do not need it. Other players on a server will see the blinking only if they run a Minecraft version that supports the second skin layer and a skin that has second layers. Files are published for Fabric, Forge and Quilt, with builds for 1.12 – 1.20.1 across 19 release versions.

Key features

  1. Automatic layer toggling

The second skin layers switch on and off on their own once the mod is running, with no key press needed.

  2. Configurable delay

The time between each toggle can be set in the config file, so the blinking can be slowed down or sped up.

  3. Selectable body parts

The blinking can be applied to the cape, hat, jacket, both sleeves and both pants legs.

  4. Config file editing

Settings are stored in a file named blinkigskinmod.cfg inside the config folder of the game directory, and can be changed with any text editor.

Questions

Does the server need Blinking Skin Port installed?

No. It is installed on the player's side alone, so servers need nothing. Other players see the blinking only if their Minecraft version supports the second skin layer and their skin has second layers.

Which loader should be used for Blinking Skin Port?

Files are published for Fabric, Forge and Quilt. The latest Fabric and Quilt builds are 2.2.0 for 1.20.1, while the latest Forge build is 1.1.0 for 1.12.2 on the beta channel.

Where is the blinking interval set?

The interval is set in the blinkigskinmod.cfg file inside the config folder of the game directory. The author describes editing this file with a text editor, and the delay and body parts are configured there.

What the author says

This modification automatically toggles all second Skin layers you set to true in a specified interval. Minecraft introduced a second skin layer in version 1.8 for every part of the player's body. You can configure this modification to toggle certain (or even all) second skin layers in certain time intervals. This…
