Black Virus Strain is a Forge mod about a horror virus that spreads from plants to people and drives them toward madness, and about the five races players can choose to fight it.
What it does
The mod's story starts on a plain, where villagers find a black strain growing on some plants. Contact with it poses a serious threat: over time the strain slowly takes away a person's sense of self, level by level, until the victim has fallen completely into madness. The whereabouts of villagers who have fallen this way remain unknown, and the mod leaves open whether the strain can ever be used correctly and live alongside people.
Players choose one of five races to join the fight against the black virus: Merfolk, Ghast, Blaze, Enderman or Black Strain. Each race is a distinct path through the content. Servers that run it need every player to install it too. Files are published for Forge only, for 1.20.1, and version 1.0.0 is the latest, dated 2025-05-05. The code is all rights reserved, so the mod is not open source.
