Bedrock Inventory Animations

by 1xayd1

Bedrock Inventory Animations smooths out item movement inside inventory screens, in the way the Bedrock edition of the game does.

FabricNeoForgeClient-side onlyGNU General Public License v3.0 only1.21 – 1.21.1

What it does

Items that move between slots in an inventory slide across the screen instead of jumping. The motion is driven by a curve that the player edits in the settings menu, so the timing can be tuned from quick to slow.

The mod is a client-side only decoration mod. Only the client needs it, and servers run without it. Builds cover 1.21 and 1.21.1, published for Fabric and NeoForge, and the code is under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, so the project is not open source. Fabric installs require Fabric API, and a mod menu is needed to reach the settings screen. The current files track 1.21 and 1.21.1, with 1.0.1 dated 2024-10-15 as the latest file for both loaders.

Key features

  1. Animated item movement

Items sliding between inventory slots replace the instant jump of vanilla inventory screens.

  2. Enable toggle

A toggle button in the settings turns the animation on or off without removing the mod.

  3. Speed slider

A slider sets how long each item movement takes, from short to long durations.

  4. Editable animation curve

A graph shows the easing curve. A right click on empty space adds a point, and a left click and drag moves it.

  5. Fixed endpoints

The first and last points of the curve cannot be moved, which keeps the start and finish of each movement fixed.

How it compares

Full comparison

Smooth Swapping is another client-side animation option for inventories, licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only and open source. It is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 1.17.1 – 26.3. Smooth UI is also client-side only and open source, under the MIT License, but covers only Fabric for 1.21 – 1.21.8, so it targets a different set of interface elements.

Questions

Does Bedrock Inventory Animations need Fabric API?

Fabric API is needed only on the Fabric build. The NeoForge build does not require it.

Which Minecraft versions does the mod support?

The files cover 1.21 and 1.21.1, the two game versions with release files for the mod.

Does the server need the mod installed?

No. It is installed on the player's side alone, so servers need nothing.
