With Better Trees installed on a server, overworld trees grow larger, taller and more complex than the vanilla versions.

What it does

Better Trees is a world generation mod and datapack that redesigns the trees of the overworld. Every tree is bigger and taller, and its shape is more complex, so forests look different from the vanilla generation. The trees keep the vanilla look and use only vanilla blocks, with no stairs or fences in their construction. Chopping a tree yields more wood and more saplings than before.

The environment is server required with the client optional: the server must run the mod to generate the new trees, and players may leave it out. Files are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and the latest build, 2.0.0+mod for 26.3, dates from 2026-10-08. Builds cover 1.17 – 26.3, and snapshot builds are published as well. Better Trees is released under the Apache License 2.0 and is open source, with public links to its source code and issue tracker.

Because the trees are much larger, server owners may want a separate felling tool so that one chop does not clear a whole trunk.
