Better Suggestions

by shurik204

Better Suggestions changes how the command suggestion list behaves in Minecraft, adding entity names, tags and scoreboard values to the tooltips when a player types a command.

FabricClient required, server optionalGNU General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.19.4 – 1.21.8

What it does

Command suggestions become more useful with this Fabric mod. Entities are listed alongside the one a player is looking at, the selected entry is highlighted, and the number of visible suggestions can be set in the config. Holding Shift shows a suggestion tooltip, while Ctrl with the Up or Down key scrolls through a whole page of suggestions at once.

The mod also covers the score holder argument and team scoreboard values, and it displays entity names, tags and other details in tooltips. Those score values require the mod Server Display Scores on the server, so the displayed information is complete. Better Suggestions needs Cloth Config API and Fabric API to run.

It is published for Fabric only, across 15 release versions 1.19.4 – 1.21.8, and it is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only. Snapshot builds are published as well. The latest Fabric file, 1.2.7.1, targets 1.21.1 and was released on 2025-08-26.

Key features

  1. Entity suggestions

Entities near the one a player is looking at are suggested along with it, so selectors need less typing.

  2. Highlighted selection

The currently selected suggestion is highlighted, making it easier to follow the list while scrolling.

  3. Adjustable page size

The number of suggestions shown at once is configurable, so the list can be kept short or made longer.

  4. Shift tooltips

Holding Shift opens a tooltip for a suggestion, with entity names, tags and scoreboard values.

  5. Score holder argument

A suggestion provider for the score holder argument and team scoreboard values is added to commands.

Custom Scoreboard is client-side only, licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and covers Fabric and Quilt for 1.19 – 1.21.8. Better Suggestions is published for Fabric only, so it does not run on Quilt, and a client must run it while the server may skip it.
