Better Name Visibility
by Hoetty
Players who build over caves or hide names behind walls can read vanilla name tags through blocks with Better Name Visibility, a Fabric client mod that adjusts how names are drawn.
What it does
The mod changes the rendering of vanilla name tags so names behind other blocks stay readable. Names behind other blocks are always drawn fullbright, so the current light level does not darken them, and the improved rendering can be turned off with a configurable key. Its settings cover text color and opacity, the background color behind name tags, and whether names keep the same size at any distance. Minecraft normally stops drawing names beyond 64 blocks, and a configurable limit can be disabled, though this is only recommended when distance scaling is enabled.
Several options are exposed through YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL), and the Mod Menu integration opens the settings screen. Team colors overwrite custom foreground colors by default, and an option can force the configured text color instead. Behavior with shaders may vary; some shaderpacks support the functionality fully and others only partly. The mod is open source under the MIT License and runs on the client alone. Fabric API and YetAnotherConfigLib are required, and Mod Menu is optional.
Key features
Names visible through walls
Name tags are drawn over blocks that would otherwise hide them, so names stay readable behind terrain.
Adjustable text and background
Text color, opacity and the background behind name tags can be changed, with defaults of opaque white text on semi-transparent black.
Distance scaling
Names can be scaled so they appear the same size at any distance, and the 64-block render cutoff can be lifted.
Team color control
Team colors can overwrite custom foreground colors, or the configured text color can be forced.
