Better Melon
by LitQA
Better Melon lets players eat whole melons, melon slices and melon slabs, and adds melon variants, a cutting tool and carved decorative blocks to the game.
What it does
Melon blocks can be eaten directly by right-clicking them, and the block's appearance changes as it is consumed. A cut melon block is eaten the same way while held, and eating a portion takes only 16 game ticks, about a quarter of the time a normal food item needs. Slabs and stairs made from melon can be eaten in the same manner, which makes melon a food that can be carried and eaten from the world.
The mod adds several melon forms alongside the vanilla melon, including unripe and glistering types. Carved melon decorative blocks and other melon-related items are added as well, including a dedicated melon-cutting tool and matching slabs and stairs.
The developers describe the mod as a response to the vanilla melon, which is slow to farm and restores little hunger, and which players tend to stop using once the early game ends. The aim is to give melons a role beyond emergency food in the middle and late game, through varied effects and decorative value. Installation needs no extra dependencies, and the code is under the MIT License, so the project is not open source.
